R & D Technologist

Job Description

The R & D Technologist exercises discretion and judgement in the preparation of experiments, applications and demonstrations revolving around new product development and ongoing product improvement.

Job Qualifications
  • 4-year degree and 3-5 years' experience in a food related setting desired - dairy or cheese preferred.
  • Ability to lead projects for customers including customer visits.
  • General knowledge of kitchen and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of GMP's, Good Laboratory Practices and ingredients used in the manufacturing of FCI finished products.
  • Understanding of basic laboratory mathematics.
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to self-learn new procedures.
  • Ability to use creativity and successfully apply newly learned concepts to daily tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to interact in a professional manner with all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to organize workload, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines for deliverables and multi-task on several projects individually as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform light lifting and standing for bench and stove work. 
Job Responsibilities
  • Develop or select optimal flavors for projects according to specified requirements (i.e. customer, regulatory, legislation, cost, etc.).
  • Carry out technical and sensory testing of products and formulations.
  • Execute daily project-related tasks and apply knowledge during flavor development, flavor selection and evaluation.
  • Serve as technical advisor to marketing, sales and customers for specific applications.
  • Lead evaluation of flavors in customer projects, research projects and library evaluations.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with customers gaining their trust and respect.
  • Coach, train and motivate technicians.
  • Establish and maintain effective cross functional internal relationships.
  • Alert upper management to any food safety issues or concerns that may be encountered.

Job Description

Perform unskilled and semi-skilled procedures in the process of manufacturing food product ingredients.

Job Qualifications

Must be able to understand and follow basic instructions, possess basic math skills and participate in team discussions and activities as well as work alone. Must be able to receive, understand and follow safety training instruction in operation of machinery, use of chemicals and operation of fork lifts.

Job Responsibilities

Loading and unloading of materials, packaging of finished products, operate forklift and material handling equipment, cleaning of machines and facilities.
